How to import and export MySQL database via SSH

You can easily import/export your database using phpMyAdmin menu in cPanel, but when dealing with large databases over 50Mb it is recommended to manage them via SSH. In this article, I will cover exporting and importing a database via SSH. Make sure that you replace the following variables in the commands below:

USERNAME - the MySQL user assigned to your database.

DATABASE - the name of your MySQL database.

Exporting a MySQL database

To export a MySQL database, you need to use the mysqldump command. Here is the full command for exporting your database:

mysqldump -uUSERNAME -p DATABASE > backup.sql

You will be prompted for a password - this is your MySQL user's password.

The MySQL database will be exported to a file named "backup.sql" in your current directory.

Importing a MySQL database

To import a MySQL database, you need to use the mysql command. Here is the full command:

mysql -uUSERNAME -p DATABASE < backup.sql

Again, you will be prompted for the password of your MySQL user.

The backup.sql is the name of the file that you are importing to your database. It must be in your current working directory.

If you got an email from cPanel regarding "Disk Usage Warning" that means your "/backup" disk reached critical status and you have to remove the old backup files from your server and backup disk. Here in this video tutorial you'll learn how to delete the backup file and directory by using "rm" command in linux.

cPanel Monitoring

The rm ("remove") command is used to delete files. When used recursively, it may be used to delete directories.

rm removes each file specified on the command line. By default, it does not remove directories; see removing directories below for details.

The removal process unlinks a file name in a filesystem from its associated data, and marks that space on the storage device as usable by future writes. In other words, when you remove a file, the data in the file isn't changed, but it's no longer associated with a filename.

The data itself is not destroyed, but after being unlinked with rm, it becomes inaccessible. Remove your files wisely! It's not like putting something in the Windows Recycle Bin; once you rm a file or directory, there is no way to undo it.

rm myfile.txt

Remove the file myfile.txt. If the file is write-protected, you will be prompted to confirm that you really want to delete it.

rm -f myfile.txt

Remove the file myfile.txt. You will not be prompted, even if the file is write-protected; if rm can delete the file, it will.

rm *

Remove all files in the working directory. If it is write-protected, you will be prompted before rm removes it.

rm -f *

Remove all files in the working directory. rm will not prompt you for any reason before deleting them.

rm -i *

Attempt to remove every file in the working directory, but prompt before each file to confirm.

rm -I *

Remove every file in the working directory; prompt for confirmation if more than three files are being deleted.

rm -r mydirectory

Remove the directory mydirectory, and any files and directories it contains. If a file or directory that rm tries to delete is write-protected, you will be prompted to make sure that you really want to delete it.

rm -rf mydirectory

Same as the above command, but you will never be prompted; if rm can delete the files, it will.

How to Hide All Desktop Icons on Your Mac without Using Any Software or App

If you need to use your Mac for a presentation at work or school, you may want to tidy up your machine by removing all the icons that are cluttering up your desktop. You can drag all the icons off your desktop for your presentation and then drag them back when you are done, but that method can be inconvenient and increases the chance that you could accidentally lose a file or two in the moving process. There is an easier way that allows you to temporarily hide the icons, while still keeping the files in their original location.

There’s a faster and easier way to hide all the icons on your Desktop, though, using the Terminal.
Quickly launch Terminal using an app launcher like Alfred or just double clicking the app in your Utilities folder.

Once there, type or paste the following command in:

defaults write CreateDesktop false

then restart the Finder with the following:

killall Finder

This will hide all the icons on your Desktop in one fell swoop so you can go about your business on the big projector.

When you’re done and you want to see that giant pile of clutter again, simply reverse the command:

defaults write CreateDesktop true

killall Finder
There you have it – quick, easy, and trouble free without using any free or premium softwares.
